Thanks for your thoughtful comments Patrick. I don’t think that “white” individuals necessarily think they themselves are superior to others, but the idea that whiteness is preferable or superior to blackness is deeply embedded in our culture. The names of the races using those words was no accident, so there are subconscious “scripts” (for lack of a better word) that come along with the ways we refer to each race, and have for hundreds of years. To extricate those subconscious notions is exceedingly difficult, esp. when there are now systems in place that support that ideology.
